A Star Is Born
I finally finished my star of valor. I went back in and ripped out the triangles. I cut new ones, and it solved a lot of problems I was having. I may still add a white outer border. What do you think?
I need your advice. I am a little worried about my fabric. When I was pressing it (late, late at night listening to red eye radio) I knocked the iron over and some super hot water spilled on it. I thought I got it up and went on pressing. My iron was turned way up and I pressed a sectin of red and white that was still wet. The red bled a little. It was on the seam allowance, so it did not ruin it, but it scared me a little. I have not had any problems with the color using the steam. The wet parts did not bleed, just where I put the hot iron on the wet fabric. I prewashed and used a color catcher. It did catch some color, but it wasn't a whole lot. Now I am worried about it bleeding. As far as for the bee, sould I make another one with different fabric for the QOV top? I can still use this one as a wall quilt. What should I do?
Oh, no! That must have been disheartening after all your work!! It sounds like a really weird thing to happen, if it's not having problems with steam, doesn't it? I've never seen that happen. I wouldn't worry about getting new fabric if the steam pressing and washing aren't making it run. :)
There was no problem with the steam transferring the color. It did just fine. There was just a little bit of color on the color grabber when I washed it. No color on the white fabric I washed it with.
It was only when I touched that wet place with a super hot iron (It was accidentally on the highest setting. Like I said, it was really late.) that it transferred. It only transferred on the place I touched.
Red and white together always make me nervous.
I guess we will have to wash the finished quilt with color grabbers and put in the instructions to the soldier wash the thing on cold.
If you think it will be okay. I will send this one to you for the bee.
